The high-value designer
Owner: we just need a simple login form. Designer: no problem!
Designer presents design to client. Client approves it. Developer implements it.
User: mmh, I don't have an account. How can I register? I'll reach out to them.
Owner opens email inbox. 75 complaints.
Owner: designer, developer, this is unacceptable. My customers need a way to register.
Designer mocks up a registration form. Developer implements it.
This may look obvious and trivial. For most professionals, it is — and most would just dive in and ship it as fast as possible.
Here's the thing: owners solve owner problems. Your experience guides the best path to the solution. Save them time and protect their reputation.
Don't design features. Present solutions. If you don't fully understand the problem, you'll offer an incomplete answer. Hold your yeses until you get the full picture.
